Upcoming BC Readings from Susan McCaslin’s new memoir, Into the Mystic: My Years with Olga (Inanna Publications, Oct. 2014) are listed below. Susan McCaslin’s Into the Mystic focuses on her long association with a spiritual mentor she met in 1969, Olga Park (1891-1985). This spiritual autobiography consists of a series of vignettes, narratives, and poems written by the author with excerpts from Park’s own writings, as well as some illustrations of Olga’s own spiritually-inspired artistic creations. Her work is now being archived at the University of Manitoba. It explores the relation of the female seeker to her wisdom teacher, an elderly mystic from Port Moody, British Columbia, and addresses questions about the relation of time to eternity, the nature and emergence of consciousness, and the value of direct mystical experience in a contemporary Canadian context. The book synthesizes memoir, spiritual autobiography, biography, personal narrative, and poetry in an innovative way.
