Response to the Master Class offerings this year has been so positive that the first two classes filled up within a week. So our wonderful Conference Committee has added a third class! We are pleased to announce that Helen Moffett will be leading this new Master Class session: “The Alchemy of Editing: Working With an Editor and Going the DIY Route.”

Helen is a South African writer, academic, researcher, trainer, editor, and activist. She has more than twenty-five years of experience editing award-winning and international best-selling authors. She has trained editors for Oxford University Press (SA), Oshun (Struik Publisher’s women’s imprint), and the Gender and Women’s Studies in Africa project. She regularly mentors editors and young writers (with a special emphasis on nurturing young black women).

Helen’s writing spans nonfiction, fiction, poetry, sports writing, and scholarly work. Her first collection of poetry, Strange Fruit, is a brutally honest series of meditations on the aging body, loss of love, and infertility. She writes the popular Girl Walks In erotica series with Sarah Lotz and Paige Nick under the nom de plume Helena S. Paige. Her book Rape, Race and Citizenship: The Gender Civil War in Post-Apartheid South Africa, will be published later this year. Since it first appeared in 2012, her annual Women’s Day Blog has gone viral every year. Don’t miss Helen’s session.
